Help for Tier 2 Status Page

The Tier 2 Status Page shows the actual online status of the Tier 2 servers network and the statistics, i.e. used javAPRSSrvr server version, connected clients, uptime and data output bit rate without TCP/IP overhead (BPS). The output bit rate is averaged over the uptime of the individual server and does therefore not necessarily reflect the actual real value.

The column "PE %" shows the average poll error ratio in percent for the last 220 poll cycles (approximately 48 hours). Poll error ratios of less than one percent in the average are considered to be "Internet noise" and are not shown. A figure of more than 10 indicates that the server either had a major down time in the last two days, or a continuous bandwidth problem.

All servers use the most recent javAPRSFilter. You have to connect to port 14580 to use your customized filter. A copy of the User Guide is here. Connections to the user-definable filtered port 14580 is the preferred connection mode for the Tier 2 servers. Look at the status page of the server you want to connect to for details.

The status table is generated by means of a PHP script on this server which allows to poll the relevant data from the Tier 2 servers on their service port.

The lifetime of the displayed data is 15 minutes. If you enter the site or refresh it, the polling action is only performed if the data are more than 15 minutes old. You can update the table, i.e. poll the servers, at any time by clicking the link 'UPDATE NOW' on the bottom line.

During the update some browsers like IE do not display anything and you have to wait some seconds to see the polling results in the completed table. More intelligent browsers build the table row by row and allow you to see the progress of the polling action. Polling time is around 30 seconds, depending on network conditions and server availabilities.

During the polling action the following errormessages may occur:

Error Message

Failure

host...: DNS timeout

DNS lookup timeout

host ...: not resolvable

No DNS record found for this host

host ...: not accessible

Socket connection could not be established in three seconds

host ...: R/W timeout

A read/write timeout occurred after socket connection

host ...: ID T2...

Server is temporarily redirected to another Tier 2 server

host ...: ID not recognized

Server ID not recognized or not found

host ...: no upstream

Server has no valid upstream (outbond) connection

Timeout is 3 seconds after connection request. The delays encountered during the last polling cycle can be seen here.
