My
views of Antony
|
|
Since 1995 I live in the city of Antony, which is about 11 km south of the center of Paris in the department Hauts-de-Seine (92). It is the most southern city of the department and the neighboring departments are Val de Marne (94) and Essonne (91). A red arrow indicates my geographical position on the map. If you want to know it more precisely, then click on the map. North of Antony is the city of Sceaux (92) with the well-known park (Parc de Sceaux). It's a wonderful resource for a walk on a hot weekend. Living in Antony is very convenient for me. It is not only situated in the middle between my former office and Paris, it also allows for shopping on Sundays. The market and all major shops are open in the morning. |

After shopping it is a good habit to drink a coffee in the "bistro du coin", which is certainly not missing. You can sit on the sidewalk, but you are very close to the busy intersection of the main shopping street with the "National 20", a major route from the southern suburbs into Paris. Around this intersection between N20 and D67 you can find all the shops you would need and you are only 300 meters from the train (RER) station. |

In front of the train station, at the other end of the main shopping street, you find the old town hall. A new train station had been inaugurated in 2003. Antony is a major turn table for the public transport by train and bus. In addition, an automatic express train shuttle to Orly airport has the terminal here. A new all concrete town hall had been built not far from here, in front of the church Saint Saturin. The place in front of this church is the central point for the 'Cheese and Wine Street Market' mentioned below. |

Special events are the market every Sunday morning in the center of the city and the 'FOIRE aux FROMAGES et aux VINS' (Cheese and Wine Streetmarket) every September. For both events I have dedicated pages: On the more unpleasant side of the life in Antony I have to note the heavy traffic in the city center, especially on Sunday mornings, the bad pollution that comes with it, and the stupid parking habits of some French citizens. For the latter I have a special page: |
